I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love a tuna fish sandwich. It’s generally my go to sandwich when I go to a diner or deli. Whether it’s a tuna club, a tuna sandwich, or a tuna wrap, I am all on board with that. I actually love it with hard boiled egg.
But, I had a craving for something a little different and this creation came to mind. I’ve made a browned butter aioli before for lobster burgers and crab cakes and various other seafood dishes, so that’s the first thing that came to mind for this sandwich. Then, to really enhance the tuna, I added lemon zest and a little bit of lemon zest. It adds the perfect amount of tartness. To counter that, the sweet chili sauce adds a nice sweetness that isn’t overwhelming or cloying. And lastly, I added some chopped capers because, well, capers are delicious and highly underused!
Tuna is delicious paired up with lots of different toppings! Sometimes I go without any toppings, relishing in just the tuna. Other times, I load my sandwich up with sprouts, lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese! However you like to eat it, you do you.
This sandwich is a great way to switch up your typical lunch meal! It comes together super quickly, with the “longest” part browning your butter… which really only takes about a minute! Then, the sandwich comes together just as quickly as any other tuna sandwich!
Looking to switch up your weekday lunch? Try this delicious tuna sandwich… you won’t go back 😉
Enjoy!
